Insights From Our Mothers
Curley Company was created by and founded on strong women. On Mother’s Day, we recognize the strong women in our own lives. Without the lessons they taught and the values they instilled in us; the Curley team would not be what it is today. Check out how the women in our lives have inspired us and taught us to be the best versions of ourselves.
Jennifer Curley, President and CEO
My mom always told me to treat others as you would like to be treated. That “golden rule” worked well to guide me for many years, but I love how it has evolved to treating others as they would like to be treated – embracing the differences we each bring to the table. This is still one of the values on the Curley wall today.
Greg Wilson, Senior Vice President
My mother passed away 16 years ago, but she inspired me long ago with her commitment to “put in the work” to achieve a goal. This memory highlights a valuable lesson she taught me:
I grew up in a family of athletes, but mom wasn’t one of them! One day, she told us she wanted to learn how to juggle—and then promptly took out a book on juggling and began to read it. My dad, sister and I all laughed—hard. But she sat there reading for 2 hours, then took out some Kleenex and started to try to juggle them. An hour later, she was using sheer scarves. By dinner time, she was using tennis balls. Before bed, she proclaimed, “I can juggle.”
In one day, with no experience or aptitude, she went from goal to achievement through persistence and tenacity. That’s one of the main lessons I learned from my mother, and it inspires me still today.
Yolanda Malry, HR and Operations Administrator
It’s important to note that my mom is the mother of 5 girls, which I can’t even imagine! She always raised us with a loving and peaceful nature, and she inspires me to be calm and thoughtful in my life interactions, which for me is always a work in progress. She also taught me the golden rule, which is to treat others as I wish to be treated and I still live by this rule.
Kiersten Hizak, Account Supervisor
Whether she knows it or not, my mom is such an important influence and voice in my life. I know I can call her whenever I need advice or just want to talk things through, and she’ll always be there to listen. She’s taught me to put myself out there, take risks, and stand up for what I believe in. There’s no way I could have moved across the country, and now even just five hours away from home, without her support and confidence in me to succeed in anything I do.
Erika Dyer, Account Supervisor
My grandmother taught me that “If you can’t do something with a happy heart, it’s not worth doing at all!”
Abby Listerman, Senior Account Manager, Digital
My mom has been the queen of self-care since way before the term was coined. Despite working as a doctor and raising three kids, she always demonstrated the importance of rest, treating yourself and listening to your body. She continually pours into her kids, husband, patients, friends and family while demonstrating that you can’t pour from an empty cup. The older I get and the more responsibilities I have, the more grateful I am for this lesson.
Jess Sklar, Senior Account Manager
My mom always makes time for everyone, and she really cares about the people in her life. She reminds me to go the extra mile when it comes to the ones that matter.
She has always told me I can achieve anything I put my mind to. She’s always believed in me and my goals. At the same time, she does it herself – watching her excel in her career while balancing friends, hobbies and family has been a great model for me as I figure out the kind of life I want to live.
Jess Nguyen, Intern
My mom inspires me to be a better person by carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders with such grace. She constantly shows up for her family and friends and is the prime example of a hard-working, kind-hearted woman that I aspire to be. One important lesson she taught me was that I can do anything I set my mind to. She always reminded me that as a daughter of Vietnamese immigrants, I am able to achieve any goal, so long as I give it my all. She told me that I must be my biggest supporter first before helping anyone else.
Hannah Belt, Associate Account Manager
Throughout my life, my mom has shown such strength and resilience. She has always been my biggest supporter and was there for me at every game, ceremony and accomplishment, and every cry, hard time and struggle. Even when I didn’t know she was on my side, she was always there. She inspires me by helping me remember that I am capable of getting through every difficult time that comes my way.
My mom has taught me to embrace the small things in life that bring you joy and to surround yourself with people who are truly on your team. I’m so lucky to have grown closer to my mom as I’ve gotten older and would do anything to see her smile.
Joia La Roche, Creative Manager
My mom has ALWAYS put me first in every single way. She is the most generous, kind and loving person I’ve ever met and makes everyone’s lives better because of her selflessness. If I am half the person she is, I will be so proud. She has taught me that it is important to be loving and in touch with your feelings, that it’s ok if you make mistakes as long as you learn from them, and there are few ailments that a banana and a cup of tea won’t fix!
