Elizabeth Curwen, Vice President, manages reputation, public relations, and public affairs for clients at Curley Company. She has a proven record of 20 years as a communications and public affairs strategist, and believes in the power of effective messaging and compelling content to spark discussion, inform debate, and improve perceptions of her client’s issues. She has worked on a diverse range of issues, including health care and health reform, climate and sustainability, agriculture and food waste, and education.
At Curley Company, Elizabeth leads a major client engagement for a women’s health care manufacturer and supplier, managing the implementation of a multi-channel strategy that includes message development, earned and paid media, digital and social media, legislative outreach, and grassroots and partner engagement.
Before coming to Curley, Elizabeth was a vice president at Outreach Strategies (OS) where she worked on climate change and sustainability issues. At OS, she helped the Environmental Defense Fund make a little known and poorly understood pollution issue a climate priority for the Obama Administration. This effort leveraged a diverse chorus of voices to deliver smart messaging across multiple platforms, including energy and climate policy media, opinion pages, social media, and highly-targeted digital advertising.
Elizabeth has spent most of her career in public affairs and public relations agencies, including Spitfire Strategies, APCO Worldwide and Widmeyer Communications. At Spitfire she specialized in health policy and children’s coverage issues, leading engagements for The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. She also regularly trained nonprofits on strategic communications planning, digital strategy, messaging, and audience targeting and engagement. At APCO she developed third-party ally programs for clients in the chemicals and plastics industries, and created a health literacy program aimed at reducing medication errors and improving compliance. At Widmeyer, she helped create an award-winning public education campaign on drowning prevention.
A native Californian, Elizabeth graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles with a degree in geography. She often seeks ways to incorporate maps into her client work. She lives in Washington, D.C. with her son.
